LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is facing multiple charges after deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office say he assaulted one of their own.

According to arrest reports, sheriff's deputies went to the home of 28-year-old Frank James Smith, near the corner of Central Ave. and S. 7th St., just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday to serve a warrant.

The warrant concerned an alleged domestic violence incident that took place the day before.

When the deputies arrived, Smith allegedly demanded to. be handcuffed outside. When they refused, Smith charged at one of the deputies, according to an arrest report. Smith allegedly hit the deputy in the face with his forearm, "knocking the deputy off the front porch and down six steps."

At that point, Smith allegedly took off down the street on foot, with four deputies chasing after him.

He was shot with a stun gun when he reached a fence he was unable to jump on Central Avenue. However, deputies say Smith continued to resist, and force had to be used to lock the handcuffs.

One of the deputies complained that both his uniform and his stun gun were damaged in the scuffle.

Smith is charged with third degree assault, disorderly conduct, fleeing and evading police, resisting arrest and multiple counts of criminal mischief. He was arrested in the 1400 block of Central Avenue.
