LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Oldham County Police officer accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a juvenile is expected to be arraigned in court today.
Chief Greg Smith says they were contacted last month about inappropriate text messages being sent to a female juvenile while she was in school.
An investigation led them to Officer Shane Mosley.
"It originated from a lawful encounter that he had with this young lady and another young man, and from that it proceeded on," says Colonel Greg Smith, the Chief of Police.
Chief Smith says the juvenile did not know the officer, and that the text messages sent to her contained graphic sexual references.
He confronted the officer shortly thereafter morning.
Police say Officer Mosley turned in his resignation, and was officially charged and taken to jail.
Mosley posted a $1,000 bond to get out of jail, but was not at his Pendleton home when we stopped by last month.
As we were leaving, a family member yelled for us to leave and threatened to call police.
Mosley has been charged with Unlawful Use of Electronic Means to Induce a Minor to Engage in Sexual or other Prohibited Activity, Official Misconduct, and Unlawful Transaction with a Minor.
"I'm proud of what our own people had to do. It was one of their own officers involved but they didn't hesitate to step forward and do the right thing immediately," says David Voegele, the Oldham County Judge Executive.
"But it doesn't speak for the whole department, it only speaks for one individual. That's kinda what we want people to know," says Chief Greg Smith.
While the investigation moves forward, police say they are thankful for the teenager who stepped up to alert authorities.
"She's very courageous at her age to take on a police officer and report this, I think it's exceptional. I can't say much more than I'm very proud of her," says Chief Smith.
Authorities couldn't tell us the teenager's age, but do say she's in her upper teens.
Officer Mosley has been with the department for four years.
