Clark Co. toddler death under investigation

Posted: Updated:

NEAR OTISCO, Ind. (WDRB) -- Clark County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a toddler Wednesday night.

A spokesman says the 18-month-old child fell and hit his head outside of his home and later died of blunt force trauma.

It happened at a residence on Leon Prall Road, near Otisco and north of Charlestown.

Officers initially responded to a call that the boy was attacked by a dog.  But after further investigation, they say there's no reason to believe an animal was involved.

Officials believe the child fell on uneven gravel.

Officers gathered at Saint Catherine Hospital in nearby Charlestown late Wednesday.

The investigation into what happened is still in the early stages.

The coroner's office has not released the child's name.  An autopsy is planned Thursday.
