JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind.  (WDRB) -- Fire brings a brief scare to the Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville.

The sprinkler system helped contain a dryer fire in a basement laundry room about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Rags inside the dryer caught fire.  The dryer was unattended and should not have been, Clark Co. Sheriff Danny Rodden said.

Officers and responding firefighters quickly determined no evacuations were needed of the more than 500 inmates and staff.

Rodden described the damage as minor.

Workers were cleaning the mess Wednesday night.
