Thousands turn out for breast cancer awareness run

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An estimated crowd of more than 10,000 people enjoyed a beautiful fall morning for a well-known breast cancer walk and run.

Each year, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure attempts to raise awareness and money to help find a cure for breast cancer.

This morning's walk and run took place in Iroquois Park.

Participants were greeted by students from Middletown Elementary, which is home to a number of breast cancer survivors.

"My sister back in 2001 died of breast cancer," says Doug Gotto. "It's just been a big part of my family and I would do anything to find a cure."

Organizers estimated this year's crowd set a record for attendance.
