LG&E to shut down Cane Run Road plant early

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Gas and Electric plans to shut down its Cane Run Road power plant eight months early.

The plant is supposed to be converted to natural gas in 2016.

But a release from the utility today said it expects to shut down three coal fired units earlier.

The change was due to permits being approved by the Kentucky Public Service Commission.

Residents living nearby have continued to complain about coal ash pollution, and the utility has been fined repeatedly for malfunctioning equipment.
