Big East basketball coaches picked U of L as the team to beat in basketball this season.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Who is the only coach who did not
vote for Louisville as the team to beat in Big East basketball this season?
Rick Pitino, of course.
Coaches are not allowed to vote for their teams in the
league's pre-season coaches' poll. The Cards earned 14 of 15 first-place votes.
Notre Dame earned the other, although Syracuse was the pick to finish second
with the Fighting Irish third.
Louisville, remember, was also voted the team to beat in football by league coaches in August.
Need the research department to check if one school was ever voted pre-season favorite in football and basketball in the Big East.
Two Cards were picked on the league's pre-season first team –
guard Peyton Siva and center Gorgui Dieng, with Siva recognized as the league's
player of the year.
Joining that duo on the first team is Cincinnati guard Sean
Kilpatrick, Notre Dame center Jack Cooley and Providence guard Vincent Council.
A sixth player – Georgetown forward Otto Porter, joined them.
The second team features Cleveland Melvin of DePaul, D'Angelo
Harrison of St. John's, Shabazz Napier of UConn, Brandon Triche of Syracuse and
South Florida guard Anthony Collins.
Louisville forward Chane Behanan was voted honorable
mention.
Steven Adams, the Pittsburgh center, was picked as the
league's top newcomer.
