Ky. city lacking candidates for commission seats

Posted: Updated:

LAFAYETTE, Ky. (AP) -- Wanted: A candidate for the LaFayette city commission.

The small city on the Kentucky-Tennessee border may not have four write-in candidates to fill all the seats on the four-member commission after the Nov. 6 election.

The non-partisan race has drawn three people, but no one for the fourth slot two weeks before the election.

LaFayette Mayor Ellin Francis told The Kentucky New Era that two people have expressed an interest in the spot, but neither had filed as a write-in candidate as of Friday. They have until Oct. 26 to do so.

According to state law, write-in candidates for any office must file a declaration of intent, and pay a filing fee. Write-in votes cast for candidates who have not met the filing requirements will not be counted.
