LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If the changing leaves aren't enough motivation to get people outside, Louisville is providing more incentives.
Saturday marked the eighth year for the Mayor's Healthy Hometown Hike.
Families got a chance to do more than just hike around Jefferson Memorial Forest. They stayed warm around a campfire while they roasted marshmallows. They also tried out their aim with bows and arrows at the archery field.
Organizers say the city is trying to promote health through outdoor activity.
"It's always great to introduce kids to the outdoors. You know, it's a lifelong process, so if you catch kids early, get them engaged in something they love and develop a bond to, they're just more likely to be doing this in the future, and that's just good for the community," says Hometown Hike organizer Bennett Knox.
Jefferson Memorial Forest is in the middle of several improvements, including a new equestrian trail and campground.
