Tips for setting a spooky table

Posted: Updated:

Brown Forman's Chief Entertaining Officer Tim Laird is getting into the Halloween spirit with some party tips. He has some great ideas to set a spooky table with food, cocktails and mocktails.

Southern Scream

In a tall glass with ice, add:

1½ ounces Southern Comfort

4 ounces orange juice

Drizzle of Grenadine

Add a black straw for sipping.

Southern Scream Alcohol-Free

In a tall glass with ice, add:

4 ounces orange juice

Drizzle of Grenadine

Garnish with a black licorice twist.

Green Monster

In a shaker with ice, add:

1 ounce Woodford Reserve Bourbon

1 ounce melon liqueur

1 ounce pineapple juice

Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an eyeball (see recipe below) or gummy worm.

Eyeball Garnish

1 lychee fruit

1 teaspoon raspberry jelly

1 blueberry

1 skewer

Fill the lychee cavity with raspberry jelly, then put the blueberry in the jelly, inside the lychee. Secure with a skewer.

Note: Canned Lychee fruit can be found in the Asian section of the grocery store.

Ghost and Bat Sandwiches

To make the Ghost Sandwiches:

Using a ghost cookie cutter, stamp 2 ghosts out of white bread. Spread one half with Benedictine, top with the other ghost bread and add 2 brown sprinkles as eyes. Repeat for more sandwiches.

To make the Bat Sandwiches:

Using a bat cookie cutter, stamp 2 bats out of pumpernickel bread. Spread one half with your favorite cheese spread (orange), top with the other bat bread. Repeat for more sandwiches.

Benedictine

1 cucumber, peeled

1 medium onion

2 8-ounce packages cream cheese, room temperature

2-3 drops green food coloring

Dash of Tabasco

Grate the cucumber and onion (easiest with a food processor). Drain well by placing in a strainer and pressing down with a spoon to remove all of the liquid. In small bowl or food processor, add the cucumber and onions, cream cheese, food coloring and Tabasco. Mix well until combined.

Antipasto Skewers

20 grape tomatoes

20 small mozzarella balls

20 green tortellini, cooked

20 salami slices

20 skewers

1 small pumpkin for presentation

Thread onto each skewer: 1 grape tomato, 1 mozzarella ball, 1 tortellini, 1 salami slice. Repeat with remaining ingredients on remaining skewers. Poke skewers into the pumpkin and serve.
