SHELBY COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) -- A teen who made a desperate escape, jumping out of a moving car on the interstate, has been found.
Kentucky State Police say Cheyenne Vires was found unharmed in Lexington, Kentucky Tuesday night. She has been returned back into state custody.
Vires was in a car with Child Protective Services when she jumped out Friday, and had not been seen since. "She was intent on getting away," said Trooper Ron Turley with Kentucky State Police.
For some reason, police say 16-year-old Cheyenne Vires desperately wanted out of a Child Protective Services vehicle.
Vires was traveling in the car with officials on I-64E Friday in Shelby County, when Vires, who was not wearing handcuffs, decided to bolt near the 32 mile marker.
"She kicked out the rear window on the driver's side, then threatened to jump from the moving vehicle," said Turley. "The driver then slowed down, I'm sure they thought, well we don't want this juvenile to jump out on the interstate at 65 mph and get killed."
But as the car slowed down, police say she jumped out of the broken window and ran to the westbound side.
Turley says, "Witnesses said she went to a red or maroon pickup truck and then we totally lost her."
