LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Days after a young Kentucky boy lost his battle with cancer, the fight that he inspired continues.
Lane Goodwin's legacy continues to inspire people to keep fighting the disease.
Although he is no longer with us, a restaurant in Elizabethtown is hosting a fundraiser in honor of him, for his family and its foundation.
Holly Cairns is one of hundreds of thousands of people who have been touched by the 13-year old boy. She started following Lane Goodwin on facebook about a month ago.
She says, "It's like knowing them, even thought I never met him, I never met his parents it's almost like knowing them. Her facebook posts are so personal."
Cairns felt a special connection to the Goodwin family. She rallied her co-workers at Gatti's Pizza and gave Lane a thumbs up, but they weren't the only ones showing their support from E-town.
She says, "I started seeing the thumbs up pictures from local people in our area so I thought there's enough people here I think we can have a fundraiser and help support them."
Cairns started planning a fundraiser at Gatti's a few weeks ago.
On Thursday, 20% off all proceeds in E-town go to the Goodwin family.
Cairns says the family still needs the support. "Even if they don't have medical bills to pay it'll go to a good cause, it'll go to childhood cancer awareness and hopefully find a cure."
Gatti's Pizza in Elizabethtown opens at 11am and the fundraiser will run through 9 o'clock tomorrow night.
