Ky. Senate President David Williams nominated to judgeship

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Senate President David Williams says he is appreciative of his nomination to an open judgeship in southern Kentucky, and that he will accept the position if Governor Steve Beshear appoints him.

The Judicial Nominating Commission met in Burkesville on Thursday, and recommended Williams for that judgeship.

That could give Governor Beshear the chance to rid himself of a political rival.

Williams is a lawyer and Beshear says he believes he is qualified to be a circuit judge.

It's a tactic the governor has used before -- previously, he appointed one GOP leader a judge and appointed another to the Public Service Commission.
