Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o is my first choice for the Lombardi Award.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – It's Cutdown Day in voting for the Lombardi Award, which is presented to the best lineman in college football. The final 25 candidates get reduced to seven.
Why seven?
Four backs, seven linemen on offense. Just a guess. And only a guess because some of the folks on the list of 25 aren't linemen, they're linebackers.
In fact, my first choice was a linebacker – Manti Te'o of Notre Dame. He's been terrific all season, a relentless playmaker for a defense that ranks second in the country in scoring defense and sixth in total defense.
In the next three spots I went with Jarvis Jones of Georgia, Jadeveon Clowney of South Carolina and Barrett Jones of Alabama.
Agree?
Disagree?
Which guy did I overlook? Sam Montgomery of LSU? Arthur Brown of Kansas State? Kawann Short of Purdue?
The final seven will be cut to four in mid-November. The final ballot is due Dec. 3.
