War Memorial unveiled in Jeffersonville

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The city of Jeffersonville gets a new permanent, patriotic addition to its waterfront.  Friday morning crews hoisted the city's new War Memorial into place.

It pays tribute to the troops who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Weighing about 10 tons, the monument is made of granite and limestone and sits on the south side of Riverside Drive and Clark Street just west of the Big Four Bridge.

Project Organizer Chad Armstrong calls it, "A memorial for this generation of soldiers that fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I just wanted them to be remembered."

Organizers say it took three years of planning and fundraising to bring the memorial to the southern Indiana city.
