Agency wants to install lights on Big Four Bridge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A campaign has started to collect $1.5 million in donations to install extensive decorative lighting on the Big Four Bridge, an old railroad bridge spanning the Ohio River between Louisville and Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The Waterfront Development Corp. is managing the conversion of the currently closed bridge into a multi-use pathway for pedestrians and bicyclists that is scheduled to open on the Kentucky side by late December.

The agency wants to add lights that will be computer controlled and will allow the bridge to be illuminated in a combination of colors for holidays and special events.

Marlene Grissom, director of special projects and chief fundraiser for the agency, said there is no plan to seek city or state money for the decorative lighting.
