LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Just days after State Senate President David Williams accepts a circuit judge appointment, horse racing fans have a renewed hope for casino gaming.
Williams was a strong opponent of Governor Steve Beshear's push for expanded gambling in Kentucky.
Beshear has said Kentucky could generate millions in revenue if casino gambling were approved by the legislature.
One place that could benefit is Churchill Downs.
Now that Williams will no longer head the Senate, some racing fans hope a constitutional amendment could bring gaming machines to the track.
"This is one of the better tracks around, and we love coming here," said racing fan Pat Bridgewater. "But of course, I think it would help the track a lot if they had more activity in that respect."
Churchill Downs vice president John Asher says the track wants to work with lawmakers on the issue.
