Toyota adds new car and potentially new jobs

GEORGETOWN, KY.  (WDRB-TV)--There could be hundreds of new jobs coming to Toyota's Georgetown, Kentucky plant.  A new product will help the company, and its plans to expand.

That expansion and potential job creation are both connected to Toyota's newest vehicle being released.  Tuesday afternoon, company officials announced the production of the 2013 Toyota Avalon.

Toyota is optimistic the new Classic Silver Hybrid Avalon will lead to growth and eventually new jobs.

Several hundred team members were on hand for the announcement along with Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari.

Gov. Beshear says,"The jobs created by Toyota, directly and indirectly by suppliers all around the commonwealth number in the tens of thousands.  That is economic security for a lot of Kentucky families."

Coach Calipari's comments centered around job creation as well.  "What I want is for this car to explode and so we got to hire a thousand more families here at this plant.  That's what my hope is," says Calipari.

The company started production on the new Avalon at the Georgetown plan this week.
