Customer shot in gas station robbery

Posted: Updated:

Louisville, Ky. (WDRB) -- A customer was shot and injured in a robbery at a gas station near Churchill Downs.

Witnesses tell Louisville Metro Police that three armed black men went into the Speedway  station at the corner of Taylor Boulevard and Central Avenue just after 5 a.m.

The suspects pulled their guns and robbed the clerk and all the customers in the store before getting away on foot.  LMPD spokeswoman Alicia Smiley tells WDRB police have not been able to determine why that customer was shot and not others.

The man has been transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Officers say he was alert and talking, when he was loaded into the ambulance.

LMPD Robbery detectives are interviewing the clerk  and witnesses.  Anyone with information is encouraged to call the anonymous police tip line at 574-LMPD.
