MAYOR: City preps for snow, doubling brine production

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville is rolling out new snow fighting tools to help when winter weather hits the city.

The mayor unveiled its snow removal plan for the winter. And this year the city has added that a second brine maker is being added to the fleet.

About 265 employees will be tackling the winter weather this year. They will be using 160 pieces of equipment to clear 2,700 miles of roads throughout the city.

As for salt -- the city has 35,000 tons available for treating roads.

New this year -- the city will be utilizing a second brine maker this year. "Now we're going to be able to make 10,000 gallons of our own brine. It costs just pennies to make a gallon of brine, but once it's down it prevents snow and ice from sticking to the roads.

The city has also improved its snow status map that lets people track the snow removal process online.
