Louisville truck driver faces reckless homicide charges over southern Indiana crash

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A truck driver from Louisville is facing a reckless homicide charge for a fatal crash that killed an Indiana state highway worker.

51-year-old Robert Burger is charged in the crash on I-65 near Seymour that killed 56-year-old Gregory Lawdermilt of North Vernon, Indiana.

Authorities say Burger falsified his logbook and had been driving at least 22 hours of the previous 30.  That's a violation of federal regulations.

Police say after a previous crash, Lawdermilt had stopped his vehicle on the highway.  They say that's when Burger's semitrailer slammed into Lawdermilt's vehicle.

Burger has been released on bond from the Jackson County Jail.
