Butchertown park dedicated in honor of neighborhood activist

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Butchertown Park now bears the name of woman who devoted her life to making the neighborhood shine.

The community held a dedication Saturday morning for the Karen Lynch Park, which stands at the corner of Brownsboro Road and Story Avenue.

Lynch moved her family from Michigan to the Butchertown neighborhood 30 years ago.

She was active in efforts to clean up the neighborhood.

Lynch and other neighbors negotiated with Swift over efforts to combat the neighborhood's distinct smell.

"She was just a worker," said her son Nathan Lynch. "She loved people's rights and wanting to help people. That was where her heart was most of the time."

Her family says helping others was her passion.

The city will now maintain the triangle-shaped park.
