The Spalding University Baseball Team takes part in No Shave November for a good cause
The Spalding University Baseball team is turning No Shave November into a good cause.
Fall practice had just started when Freshman Jeff Gersch complained of dizziness and blurred vision. He missed the remainder of fall practice and the SU World Series. After countless doctors' visits and testing, Gersch was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
He is about to start using a pump system to regulate his insulin level. The diagnosis has hit the team hard as they watch Gersch adjust to his condition and the changes in his lifestyle.
The team decided to put aside their clean shaven looks to help Gersch. Players and coaches will grow out their facial hair to try to win the first annual SU Best Beard Contest.
That's where the public comes in. You can vote daily on who you think is working toward the Best Beard on the team. You can also donate to the American Diabetes Association. The team is hoping to raise $1,000 in honor of Gersch. You can vote and make a donation at www.spaldingubaseball.com
The team will shave their faces on November 30.
