A lighter version of the traditional Cranberry Apple Crisp

The holidays are here, and everyone knows someone who is dieting or has dietary restriction. Mae shares her recipe for a waistline-friendly cranberry apple crisp.

Cranberry Apple Crisp Recipe


5 cups pared, sliced tart apples (about 6 medium apples)

1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries

1 Tablespoon Agave Syrup

1/3 cup Brown Sugar Splenda

3/4 cup Warm water

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

1/2 Teaspoon Almond Extract

1/2 cup Whole Wheat flour

2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup heart healthy butter substitute, melted

1/2 Cup Oats, Pulsed in the Food Processor


 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Lightly grease a 9-inch square baking pan.

3. Layer apples and cranberries in pan

4. Mix water, vanilla, almond extract, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, agave syrup.

5. Pour the mixture over the apples and cranberries.

6. In a separate bowl, mix flour, splenda, and cinnamon, and oats. Then work in butter until the mix is light and crumbly.

7. Sprinkle the topping evenly over apples and cranberries.

8. Bake 45 minutes or until apples are tender.

Makes  9 servings
