LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A JCPS teacher receives the highest award in the state.  JCPS Superintendent Donna Hargens and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer surprised teacher Allison Hunt Thursday morning at Manual High School.

She's the 2013 High School Teacher of the Year.  The mayor presented her with a special proclamation.

She was already told she won the award in Frankfort, but was surprised by the classroom presentation.  Hunt said, "When they announced my name at the ceremony, I was really shocked because I see great things going on around here and with other teachers all across the district and the state, to be the teacher named is pretty exciting."

Hunt teaches Advanced Placement human geography for freshman students.
