LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say two men allegedly caught in the act of stealing shingles from a home improvement store wanted the materials to complete a roofing job.

According to an arrest report, an LMPD officer spotted 46-year-old Donald D. Hunker and 45-year-old Robert D. Fanning loading shingles into a vehicle from a fenced in area on the side of the Home Depot at 2600 S. Hurstbourne Pkwy. around 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7.

When the officer turned his vehicle around to drive back to the store, both men took off in Fanning's SUV.

The officer caught up with the SUV and made a traffic stop. After searching the vehicle, 24 bundles of shingles valued at $700 were found.

Home Depot employees told police the suspects removed a hinge from a fence to take the shingles.
