RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) -- A long-talked-about proposal for a veterans' center in Madison County is on its way to becoming a reality.
Army veteran and American Legion member Jerry Owens told The Richmond Register that plans for the center are on the drawing board now that Congress has agreed to allow the Blue Grass Army Depot to give 10 acres of land to Madison County for the express purpose of a center for veterans.
Owens said the center will be located near the county fairgrounds. He said after the land is officially turned over to veterans, different organizations will work out details of the center.
He says there's a need for the center in the community.
