Tracy Bird's Grandmother's Scalloped Oysters

"My grandmother didn't cook much when she lived in an apartment by herself, but for many years she did bring the oysters to my parents' house. Now my mother or my sister makes this every year at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We don't have an official recipe, but this is the basic idea."

1 pint fresh oysters and 1 can oysters (can use all fresh or all canned, if desired)

About 2 sleeves Ritz Crackers, crumbled

Butter (1 stick or more)

Salt and Pepper

Milk (your choice, although whole milk or ½ & ½ would probably be best)

Preheat oven to 350°

Butter 2-quart casserole dish. Start with a layer of crackers, followed by a layer of oysters. Salt and pepper, and dot with butter. Repeat layer. Pour milk over top until you can see it at level of oysters (can also use some of the fresh oyster liquor in this step.)

Top with more cracker crumbs, and pour melted butter over top. Bake at 350° for about 45 minutes or until set.
