Police say Hardin Co. man fled to Texas after rape accusations

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Accused of raping his 10-year-old relative, police say a Hardin County man fled to Texas before they could question him.  He's since been captured.

67-year-old Sherman Smith was charged with three counts of rape after the victim's mother came forward with the allegations in September.

Police say the abuse occurred over the past three years when the girl was as young as 10.

When he was arrested in Texas, police say Smith refused to be extradited.  He was finally transported back to Hardin County this past weekend with a governor's warrant.

Police say there could be more charges coming against him.
