LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities lifted the half-mile evacuation order near the train derailment site in southwest Jefferson County/metro Louisville Thursday night. They also reopened Dixie Highway (U.S. 31-W) in the same area, as cleanup continues.
The word came just before 7 p.m. Dixie Highway is open, with one lane in each direction, between Kentucky 44 on the north and the Salt River bridge at West Point, Ky., on the south. Officers are enforcing a 35 m.p.h. speed limit. Drivers will still find cleanup crews and their vehicles in the closed lanes of traffic.
The moves come as crews continue their work to clear the tracks of train cars that derailed October 29th. The ensuing wreck and cleanup efforts forced several highway closings and evacuations.
