LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Salvation Army Bell ringers are now asking for donations outside more than 30 local business. The money raised helps support needy families with necessities all year-round.
More than 5,000 local families have applied to receive assistance this holiday season. The charity hopes to raise between $300,000 and $400,000 through the Red Kettle effort.
Maj. Michael Hawley of the Salvation Army explains, "Our numbers are very similar if not down from last year. There could be a number of reasons for that. But we hope to help about 10,000 children."
