LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The man whose body was found inside a townhouse that caught fire and burned during a standoff with police in Louisville's Phoenix Hill neighborhood has been identified.
The coroner's office says that man was 23-year-old JC Boyd, Jr.
The charred apartment complex along Campbell Street had been part of a chaotic scene filled with SWAT team members and a barricaded subject. It forced police to block off several streets and disrupted the lives of thousands of residents and school children last week.
LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell said officers from the VIPER unit were there early Wednesday attempting to serve several warrants on a man suspected in at least one shooting.
While trying to serve the warrant, the officers were shot at and then retreated, calling in the SWAT team, Mitchell said. None of the officers was injured.
