LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is fighting for his life at University Hospital, after a shooting and a robbery Sunday night.
Last night, Andre Ballard was expected to survive the shooting.
But after surgery today, he's left clinging for life, and police looking for who's responsible.
Andre Ballard was walking to a bus stop after getting off work at Indi's restaurant. Police say that's when he was robbed and shot on 11th Street between Chestnut Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard.
"My cousin is a good man," says Ballard's cousin Annice Graves. "I don't want anyone thinking this is some stereotypical situation of somebody out here on drugs, hustling, my cousin wasn't like that."
Ballard worked at Indi's for eight years. He made it back to the restaurant after he was shot in the abdomen, looking for help.
The 43-year old was rushed to University Hospital, where he was expected to survive. After surgery, doctors told the family to say their final goodbyes.
"For somebody to kill my cousin when he's just minding his own business, working hard to take care of his family, that is not right," Graves says.
It's been an emotional day for Ballard's family, as they turn to each other for comfort.
Ballard has seven children, between the ages of two and 27. They say their father was a hard-working man and want justice for their pain.
"I want somebody to come forward and tell me what they saw in regards to my cousin getting shot last night," Graves says.
