LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An employee of a fast food restaurant who was shot and robbed while he was on his way home from work Sunday night has died.
Deputy Coroner Anne Rhodes says 43-year-old Andre Ballard was pronounced dead at University Hospital at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police say Ballard was walking to a bus stop after finishing his shift at Indi's Restaurant Sunday night when he was shot in the stomach and robbed on 11th Street near Chestnut and Muhammad Ali Blvd.
Police say Ballard managed to return to the restaurant at 1033 W. Broadway after he was shot in the stomach.
Ballard was rushed to University Hospital, but his condition took a turn for the worse after surgery on Monday.
Now Ballard's friends and family are looking for answers.
"My cousin is a good man," says Ballard's cousin Annice Graves. "I don't want anyone thinking this is some stereotypical situation of somebody out here on drugs, hustling, my cousin wasn't like that."
Ballard worked at Indi's for eight years. He leaves behind seven children, ranging in age from 2 to 27 years old.
Family members say Ballard was talking to his girlfriend on the phone on his way to catch the bus and she was on the line when Ballard was shot.
Police believe a man and a woman were involved.
