LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Groups that plant trees in areas serviced by Louisville Gas & Electric Co. or Kentucky Utilities can apply for grants to fund the activity.
The utilities offer amounts from $500 to $5,000 to organizations that have a history of successful tree plants in the service territories. That area includes 93 Kentucky counties and five counties in Virginia.
Applications and program information are available until Dec. 14 at http://www.lge-ku.com/plantfortheplanet . Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 14 to be eligible for consideration.
Proposal status will be announced in February.
The program launched in 2009, and since then, it has supported the planting of more than 20,000 trees.
