MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Officials in Maysville have dedicated part of a highway to a police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
The Ledger-Independent reports that a portion of U.S. 68 has been renamed the Danny Hay Memorial Highway. Signs have been posted along the highway to honor the 22-year-old Hay, who had just started with the Maysville Police Department in 1979 when he was dispatched to investigate a robbery at a store and was fatally shot.
The newspaper reports Hay is the only Maysville police officer killed in the line of duty.
The officer's brother, Phillip Hay, said he was pleased with the highway signs, which would serve as a tribute to his sibling.
