Waterfront Park Christmas tree lot opens

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It is an annual tradition for a lot of families...picking out the Christmas tree.

This lot near Waterfront Park opened just yesterday with plenty of evergreens to go around.  The operator, Gary Jecker, says he has been selling trees for more than 20 years.

They range from four to up to 13 feet in height.

But picking out that perfect tree isn't always easy, especially if you have high ceilings.

"It's a challenge," says Christmas tree shopper David Dowdell. "We drove to four different Christmas tree farms last year and we ended up down by the riverfront."

Gary Jecker has been selling Christmas trees to area residents for years.

"It's a big tradition with a lot of people and they come here every year," Jecker says. "I've been selling to some families for 25 years...it's pretty neat to see them."

Gary's 84-year-old mother even helps make some of the Christmas wreaths that are for sale.
