LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A Dutch composer whose musical composition uses multi-media elements, has won the 2013 University of Louisville Grawmeyer Award for Music Composition.

Michel van der Aa's "Up-close" is a 30-minute piece comprised of a cello concerto that plays along with a film.  The work premiered in Stockholm in 2011, and has been widely praised by both critics and audiences.

The work is performed as a film plays on a large video screen on the stage.
