Indiana bill could force online businesses to collect sales tax

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Online businesses in Indiana might have to collect sales tax sooner than expected.

State Representative Ed Delaney and Representative Tom Dermondy plan to sponsor a bill that would require online retailers such as Amazon to start collecting sales tax July 1st.  That's six months earlier the current plan worked out by Governor Mitch Daniels.

Lawmakers hope to create equal competition between Indiana's brick and mortar stores and online businesses.
