Kentucky mother to appear on Rose Parade Donate Life float

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky mother who lost her daughter and two grandchildren in a horrific winter crash will take her story to California.

Cathy Mattingly will be included on the Donate Life float during this year's Rose Parade before the Rose Bowl.  The float, named Journey of the Heart, is lined with 72 memorial portraits of deceased donors.

Mattingly's daughter Carissa Foushee and her children were all killed after their car slammed head-on into a truck on a rural road in 2009.  Her mother shared the emotions of organ donation with us last year, and will ride the float in her daughter's honor:  "When I met the heart recipient it was just amazing.  I can't explain, it was like warm water went from my head to my toes.  All my grief, anger, and all the questions why were gone."

U of L Hospital has also earned the Medal of Honor from the Department of Health and Human Services for its work in organ donation.
