LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Spoke briefly with University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino this evening. He said Gorgui Dieng's wrist surgery today was successful and that he's hopeful that Dieng's return will be on the short side of the projected 4-6 weeks.
Dieng underwent the surgery to insert a screw in the fractured scaphoid bone of his left wrist. Dr. Luis Scheker of the Kleinert Kutz Hand Care Center in Louisville performed the procedure.
"The surgery went great," Pitino said. "The screw attached right to the bone, which is a good sign, so we're hopeful that he'll be back in closer to four weeks than six."
Pitino said on Monday that he's expecting Stephan Van Treese and Zach Price to pick up the slack in Dieng's absence.
