Reduced speed limit near train derailment site lifted

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The reduced speed limit in the area around the train derailment site along US 31W (Dixie Highway) has been lifted.  Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews have been uncovering the old speed limit signs, and people can now drive at the posted speed limits.

Dixie Highway near Abbotts Beach Road and the City of West Point was closed in both directions after the train derailment and chemical spill early on Oct. 29.

Several homes in the area were evacuated several times and several schools closed while crews worked to contain the spill and remove the toxic chemicals.
