LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The city of Jeffersonville has asked Indiana State Police to step in and investigate a bar fight involving two Jeffersonville police officers.
It happened a week ago at the Lighthouse Bar on Main Street in Jeffersonville. Police say the fight broke out when Lucas Wohlieb, described as a bar regular, bumped into a group of people that included the two off-duty officers. Wohlieb, according to a police report, said he was "punched in the face" by someone he could not identify.
A Jeffersonville police report identifies the off-duty officers as Toby Deaton and Kenny Kavanaugh. The report says Kavanaugh told officers who responded that Wohlieb approached him and Deaton in an "aggressive" manner, saying he ran the bar.
The report says Wohlieb was convinced to leave the bar with a sober driver rather than be arrested.
A letter was sent to ISP asking for an investigation. In it, Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore says while he has confidence in the city's police department, "it's important that we avoid any appearances of a conflict when it comes to incidents involving one of the department's own."
