LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say two people have been arrested after they were found driving down the street while at least one of them was smoking marijuana with their 7-month-old child in the car.
According to an arrest report, it started in the parking lot of Walmart on Standiford Plaza Drive, near Preston Highway, on Wednesday evening.
Police say undercover officers were in the Walmart parking lot when they spotted 22-year-old Aaron C. Rushing in a 1992 black Cadillac rolling a marijuana joint roughly 20 yards from the detective's car.
A few moments later, the vehicle pulled out of the parking lot, and officers stopped the car on Standiford Plaza Drive for allegedly driving 40 mph in a 20 mph zone.
When they stopped the car, the officers allegedly found Rushing in the front seat, and 23-year-old Samantha B. Huff in the back seat, along with their 7-month-old child.
Police say Rushing tried to hide a bag of marijuana, and officers also allegedly found a partially smoked marijuana cigarette in the ash tray.
Rushing and Huff "both showed absolutely no regard for the safety and well being of their child in the car while they were driving down the street smoking marijuana," the arrest report states, adding that they "wantonly engaged in behavior that creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury to their child by allowing a 7-month-old child to inhale smoke from a smoking marijuana joint, all while the child was sleeping."
Both suspects were charged with wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor and possession of marijuana.
