New Albany police investigate vicious rape, robbery

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- New Albany Police say they've arrested two men in connection with home invasion that turned into a vicious rape.

Police say two suspects -- 23-year-old Anthony Bell and 30-year-old Robert Brooks -- entered the home of a 51-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man, on East Oak Street near Vincennes Street in New Albany, Indiana.

Investigators believe Bell and Brooks initially planned to rob the victims, but things quickly took a turn for the worse, according to reports from the police.

Once there, police say Bell and Brooks "continually" assaulted the man and the woman, staying overnight and into the morning. The male victim was still hospitalized Thursday with head injuries he received during the assault. Police say the woman was battered and raped during the attack.

Police arrested Bell on Dec. 1. He is charged with rape, criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement and attempted robbery.

Brooks was taken into custody Wednesday night at the Beecher Terrace housing complex in Louisville. He's charged with criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement and attempted robbery.
