LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of the men charged with murdering a teenager made a bold statement in court Friday morning.
Joshua Gouker won't be using an insanity defense. He says he's competent to stand trial. Gouker and his son, Joshua Young, are charged with Trey Zwicker's murder.
The body of the 14-year old -- who is Gouker's stepson -- was found beaten behind Liberty High School in May 2011.
Gouker has said he is the only one who killed Zwicker and that his biological son, Joshua Young, was not involved.
On Friday he told a judge he's fit for trial.
"Yeah, I'm completely competent, I understand," Gouker said.
Gouker said he's willing to waive his right to an evidence hearing, and let the court decide his competency which will be ruled later.
Young's attorney wants his case sealed.
Both Young and Gouker are scheduled to be back in court next month.
