POLICE: Driver in fatal crash had stolen handgun in car

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Police believe the man who crashed a car into the White River last week, killing his girlfriend, had a stolen handgun in his car.

A Seymour Police detective is asking a prosecutor to file charges against 18-year-old Tyler Ross of theft by possession of stolen property.  Police say they found the stolen gun in the car.

Ross admitted to driving recklessly, crashing the car into the White River.  He and another man escaped, but his girlfriend, 16-year-old Brook Hawn, died.

He's charged with reckless homicide and driving without a license -- police say he'd never had one.

Hawn's viewing is Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia.  The funeral is Tuesday at 1:00.
