LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville mother has been charged with felony criminal abuse after she allegedly beat her 10-year-old girl several times with a cord.
The incident took place on Nov. 12.
The alleged crime was discovered shortly thereafter, when the child showed up for school with severe injuries.
According to an arrest warrant, Child Protective Services was notified and the girl was examined. Police say she suffered severe bruising, as well as lacerations and whelps to her back, arms, legs and chest.
Police say the girl's mother, 30-year-old Renita Sherrod, admitted to beating the child numerous times with a cord.
She was arrested shortly before 7 a.m. Monday and charged with second degree criminal abuse.
