160 trees to be planted in downtown Louisville

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Downtown Louisville is getting greener with the help of dozens of new trees.

It was found that there are currently 300 empty planters or dead trees lining the streets of downtown Louisville's business district.  That will soon change.

Tuesday morning, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and others planted a tree at 4th and Broadway.

A $5,000 grant from Metro Government, $40,000 from MSD, and a donation from a local businessman will see that more than 160 new trees are planted.

The city arborist has determined what types of trees will be planted.  Planting starts this week.
