Fort Knox soldiers honored for Superstorm Sandy recovery

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- They are trained to fight our battles overseas, but a group of Ft. Knox soldiers is being honored for their work here in the U.S.

About 200 members of the 19th Engineer Battalion have returned from New York where they helped victims of Superstorm Sandy.  The unit removed more than 13 million gallons of water and 1300 tons of debris.

Many of the soldiers say they have never seen that kind of devastation and are pleased to lend a helping hand at home.

Some members of the unit received commendation medals for their outstanding work.
